Privacy Policy
Sleep Sine is designed to do one thing well: play ambient scenes for sleep. The app collects anonymous usage and crash diagnostics to help us improve it — with no ads, no advertising identifier (IDFA), no personal data, and no tracking across other apps. You can turn this off anytime in About & Privacy inside the app. This policy explains exactly what is and isn't collected.
Purposes and legal bases
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on these legal bases:
- Anonymous app analytics & crash diagnostics (Firebase, below) — your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). In the EEA, UK and Switzerland this is off until you opt in on first launch; elsewhere it is on by default and you can opt out. Withdraw anytime in About & Privacy.
- In-app purchase / unlock — performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)); Apple is the merchant of record.
- Optional iCloud preset sync — your consent; handled entirely within your own iCloud account.
- Website analytics (Google Analytics, below) — consent, withdrawable by the opt-out methods described in that section.
Providing any personal data is optional — there is no statutory or contractual obligation to provide it, and no consequence to declining beyond turning off anonymous diagnostics. We carry out no automated decision-making or profiling within the meaning of Article 22 GDPR, and obtain personal data only directly from you, never from third-party sources.
What we don't collect
Sleep Sine has no accounts and no sign-in, and never collects your name, email, contacts, precise location, listening history, or any other personal information. There are no ads, no advertising identifier (IDFA), and no cross-app or cross-site tracking. Your saved presets, scene configurations and slider settings stay on your device (and sync only through your own iCloud account — see below).
What stays on your device
Your settings themselves — saved presets, the active scene, your slider configurations — are stored locally on your device and are never uploaded to us. (If analytics is on, an anonymous event may note that a scene was opened, as described below — but never your configuration or the contents of your presets.) If you sign in to iCloud, your saved presets sync across your own devices via Apple's iCloud service (Sleep Sine never sees this data; it travels through your iCloud account, encrypted by Apple).
What Apple sees (not us)
When you download or purchase Sleep Sine, Apple processes the App Store transaction and the Sleep Sine in-app purchase. Apple's privacy policy applies to anything they collect — see apple.com/legal/privacy. Sleep Sine receives only an entitlement token (i.e. "this device has purchased the unlock") and never sees your name, email, payment method, or any other personal information.
App analytics & diagnostics
To understand which features people use and to find and fix crashes, the Sleep Sine app uses Google Firebase — specifically Google Analytics for Firebase and Firebase Crashlytics. The data is anonymous: it's keyed to a random, resettable app-instance identifier — not your Apple ID, name, email, or the advertising identifier (IDFA) — and is never used to track you across other apps or websites.
What's collected: anonymous in-app events (for example, which scene you opened, that a sleep timer was set, or that a frequency program started), a coarse country derived from your App Store region, your device model and OS version, and — if the app crashes — a diagnostic crash report. It does not include your name, email, precise location, listening history, or the contents of your presets.
Your control. Open About & Privacy in the app and turn off Share anonymous usage data at any time. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, collection stays off until you opt in on first launch; elsewhere it's on by default and you can opt out. Google Firebase acts as our data processor — see Firebase's privacy and security and Google's privacy policy.
Shared codes and the website
Sleep Sine lets you share a 12-character code (e.g. GAR5P2-KM7EX1)
that encodes your scene + slider values. When you share that code, it can be
opened directly in the app, or via a link like
https://sleepsine.com/s/GAR5P2KM7EX1.
The website at sleepsine.com is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare may log standard technical request data (IP address, user agent, request path) for the purpose of serving the site and protecting against abuse — see Cloudflare's privacy policy for what they retain.
Website analytics
The marketing pages at sleepsine.com use
Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js) to count pageviews and
understand which scenes resonate with visitors. To do this, Google sets
first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_* in your
browser.
Analytics events include the page you visited, your approximate location (derived from your IP address, which Google then discards), the device and browser you're on, and how you arrived at the site (the referring link). They do not include your name, email, or anything from inside the Sleep Sine app — the app itself never talks to Google.
To opt out, install Google's
Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on,
enable a tracker blocker, or block googletagmanager.com via a
content blocker like uBlock Origin. For details on what Google collects and
how long they retain it, see
Google's privacy policy.
Children
Sleep Sine is rated suitable for all ages and doesn't collect any data that could be used to identify or contact a child. The app does not contain advertising, third-party links, or content sharing.
Recipients, retention & your rights
Recipients of data
We share personal data with no one for their own purposes. The only third parties that process data on our behalf or at your request are: Apple (App Store, in-app purchase, optional iCloud sync), Google Firebase (anonymous app analytics and crash diagnostics, as a data processor), Google Analytics (website analytics), and Cloudflare (website hosting). Each processes data under its own privacy terms, linked above. These providers may process data in the United States and other countries under their own international transfer safeguards (such as Standard Contractual Clauses).
We retain no personal data ourselves. Anonymous analytics are retained by Google for the period configured on our Firebase/Analytics properties; on-device and iCloud data persist until you delete them.
Your rights
If the GDPR or UK GDPR applies to you, you have the right to access, rectify, and erase your personal data; to restrict or object to its processing; to data portability; and to withdraw consent at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal). Because Sleep Sine collects no personal data — only anonymous, resettable diagnostics you can switch off — you exercise most of these controls directly: turn off Share anonymous usage data in About & Privacy, or reset the app-instance identifier by reinstalling. For any request, email support@sleepsine.com.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in the EU/EEA, your local data protection authority (see the EDPB member list); in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how Sleep Sine handles data, we'll update this page and bump the "Last updated" date above. Substantive changes (e.g. introducing any data collection at all) would be announced in the app's release notes before taking effect.
